N.C.A.D. Diploma in Art & Design

Sculptural Processes

Overview

This module consisted of an intense few days as we looked at quite a number of different sculptural methods over several full day studio sessions (as well as the usual evening classes).  I would recommend having some ideas on what you wish to achieve from sculpture before starting this class as there is not much free time to experiment and master all of the different techniques/materials studied during this module.  I had no prior experience in sculpture and so I found this module quite tough.  In hindsight, I wish that I had researched some sculptural methods before starting this module in order to have had a better understanding of the materials and techniques that I would be working with throughout this class (research by reading about the processes online, watching some of the youtube videos demonstrating the processes etc.).  We were instructed to keep a sculpture diary so as to demonstrate our use of note taking on the different processes learnt throughout this module and as a source for the development of our project ideas.  This was a great taster class about the different sculptural processes but I definitely feel that I would need to take further sculpture classes in order to have a good understanding of the techniques studied throughout this module.
